Janice B. Smith, CPA/ABV, CFE, CVA

 

Janice joined Bible Harris Smith, P.C. in January, 1991, and is Director of Accounting and Auditing Services. She is responsible for financial statements prepared under audit, review and compilation procedures.  She also works in corporate, partnership, and individual taxation.  Within the firm, Janice takes an active role in marketing, litigation support, business valuation services and accounting systems support.  

She received the ABV designation (Accredited in Business Valuation) from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the CFE designation (Certified Fraud Examiner) from the National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the CVA designation (Certified Valuation Analyst) from the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.  Janice has completed the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Educational Achievement Programs for Business Valuations and Not-for-Profit Accounting and Auditing.

"Prior to joining the firm, I gained valuable experience in the business community," says Janice. "I credit my ability to communicate with clients to the fact that I've actually experienced the issues our clients face." She worked for a tax service for five years where her responsibilities included individual tax compliance and quality review. Janice also managed a construction and rental property office in Morristown. "My responsibilities included job costing, payroll, personnel management, tax return preparation, as well as the owner's personal finances."

Janice has been guest speaker for the Institute of Managerial Accountants, National Business Institute, Greater Knoxville Business and Professional Women's Organization and UT's Singleton Wolfe Tax Conference. Janice is a member of the speakers' bureau for the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) and has been engaged for radio and television presentations, both topic-oriented and call-in shows. Janice teaches attorneys' educational classes concerning financial statements, tax issues and practice management.

Janice graduated from the University of Tennessee in May, 1992, with a Master of Accountancy degree in Taxation. She was chosen as the top accounting graduate in post-baccalaureate accounting studies by the Federation of Schools of Accountancy.  She received a B.S. in Accounting from UT in May, 1991, and was the top graduate in the College of Business Administration.

Janice serves on the TSCPA Board of Directors and is President of the 8000 member state-wide organization of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a member of the AICPA and is Past President of the Knoxville Chapter of the TSCPA. She chaired the TSCPA Public Relations Committee for three years.  Janice has been a certified scuba diver since 1986 and recently completed certification courses with the American Sailing Association related to bareboat chartering and navigation.  She and her husband, Richard, live on Cherokee Lake and enjoy boating and hiking.
